The Katahdin Program is an adventure based alternative school with students from grades 7-12. Our philosophy is rooted in the idea that educational opportunities should be as authentic and "real world" based as possible. Also, lessons and units should be as student driven as possible. Our students and staff work together to design service projects and students are involved in all aspects of every project from researching, planning, fundraising, implementing and reporting out to peers.
We also believe that learning through service helps our students become self motivated productive members of the community.
Our service projects range from small repair projects on campus to week long national and international trips. We have done trips to New Orleans to assist with the hurricane aftermath, Guatemala to work with a school for homeless children and the Dominican Republic to work at a hospital for Haitian refugees.
"A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
