Turtle Trip 2014

June 10, 2014
Rose - My favorite part of the trip was when we met up with the 4H club on Jekyll Island and went seining with them. Seining is a type of fishing where two people hold onto the end of a net and drag it on the ocean floor. We were able to catch a bunch of different kinds of fish, crabs, and horseshoe crabs with the nets. Apparently it was the most that the man, who was teaching us how to do it, had seen a group haul in.

Bud- I am really looking forward to this evening because we have big plans for a barbecue and to start a fire at our campsite. I am a huge fan of roasted marshmallows, but I'm just hoping it cools down before we start a fire!

Thorn- I would change the smell in the van! It's unclear where we came from but we've been spending a lot of time in it and it is quite pungent. But even that doesn't bother me so much when the air is on and its finally cold, because if you haven't heard, its HOT in Florida.

Watering Can -  The 4H Center and the Georgia Sea Turtle Center both had AmeriCorps working with their organizations so it was cool to see all the different jobs that you could do while serving. They really helped us and were patient with our group!

Turtle Trip 2014

June 10, 2014
We've had a great time down here with the kids! They've done a great job with busy days in the STIFLING heat. We visited the Georgia Sea Turtle Center yesterday and had a behind the scenes tour. We watched a veterinarian perform and endoscopy on a turtle. It was amazing to see the care they take to save these endangered animals!
We're now off to clean up some beaches! Hot Hot Hot!
I'm sooooo proud of these kids, they ROCK!
See you all in a few days

Something that i liked about this trip is the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. It was really fun to watch the sea turtles swimming about in the tanks. There were big turtles and small turtles i liked the big turtles. I am looking forward to going to the Catty Shack which is the big cat sanctuary because i think the tigers are really cool and i want to steal one of them, Im not leaving Florida without a tiger. Somebody who helped me out on the trip was either Jessica or Anne. So yeah Florida is real...

This trip has been the most tiring yet the most fun I've had in a long time, being able to go to the Georgia Sea Turtle center was wonderful. It really made me realize that i have more interest in turtles than i thought i did. (I'm obsessed with them) Another one of my favorite part is meeting all of these people that I'm on the trip with because at first i didn't know them very well. My most favorite part is when i got to hold the baby box turtle, I was so excited. And tomorrow were doing co...

Huge THANK YOU to Friends International for making this trip possible - we are having such a blast!!

Yesterday we began the day with a visit to the Sea Turtle Preservation Center in Indiatlantic where we learned about some of the projects that they are working on to help save sea turtles. After that we did a beach clean-up followed by some free time for swimming and beach combing.
